Have you ever considered running your first trail half or are you a seasoned trail runner looking for a local event that gives back to the community? Save the date and join us for the 2026 Umatilla Rim Ripper on Saturday, September 26th (date pending usfs permit approval).

The Rim Ripper offers four distances - 23-MILER, half marathon, 11K, and 7K – and is the perfect race for trail veterans looking to set a new PR and for newcomers who want to dip their toes into the trail running scene or for those wanting to run a longer trail race. new for 2026 is a 23-mile distance (pending usfs permit approval) for runners looking for more than a half marathon.

2025 Event Beneficiary:

Athena Weston Youth Sports (AWYS) is a non-profit, community lead organization serving the Athena, Weston, Helix, and Adams communities. AWYS’s main goal is to provide a positive environment for building a foundation of skills, teamwork, accountability and love of sports. AWYS offers organized sport activities in youth football, basketball, volleyball, and track and field throughout the Rural Sports League.

Rim Ripper Course Details

  • 23 Mile Route

    23-Mile Route: New for 2026! This race includes 18.5 miles on single track trail along both the Umatilla rim and lake creek trails. The later portion of the route in on forest access roads (combination of pavement and gravel) that bring you into the finish line. The 23-miler has about 2324 ft. of vertical gain along the course.

  • Half Marathon Route

    Half marathon (13.6 mile) route: Most of this race is on single track trail along the Umatilla Rim. The later portion of the route is on forest access roads (combination of pavement and gravel) that bring you into the finish line. The half marathon has a total of 1,434 ft of vertical gain along the course.

  • 11K Route

    11K (6.8 mile) route: A portion of this “Long 10K” route is single track trail along the Umatilla Rim, finishing on gravel forest service access roads that bring you to the finish line. The 11K has a total of 691 ft of vertical gain along the course.

  • 7K Route

    7K (4.5 mile) route: Longer than a 5K but not quite a 10K, this distance is perfect for trail newbies. The 7K race starts on single track trail along the Umatilla Rim then finishes on forest service gravel roads that bring you to the finish line. The 7K has a total of 423 ft. of vertical gain along the course.
